Getting to Ciovo Island
By Ciovo is a small island in central Dalmatia. The island is connected to the centre of Trogir with a bridge which used to be a bottleneck during the summer months, causing problems to both tourists and locals. This used to be a major problem, especially in the summer, but since the new Ciovo bridge finally opened on 17th July 2018 reaching the island of Ciovo became faster and easier.
There are plenty of easy and fast options to get to and from the island (see below).
Island Ciovo is a very popular holiday resort especially for people who like to spend their vacation in self-catering apartments. The villages Slatine, Arbanija and Okrug Gornji are the most popular destinations. There and in the rest of the villages on the island you can find a wide selection of private apartments, but also smaller hotels and guesthouses.

Getting to Island Ciovo by Car
If you are coming from north you can either follow Dalmatina A1 Highway to exit point Prgomet, from there it is about 15 km to the island. Second option is to follow the coastal road from Sibenik to Trogir.
If you are coming from the south via highway, you should exit in Dugopolje / Split, from the exit point there is about 35 km to Ciovo. If you are travelling by the coastal road from Split just continue in the direction of Trogir.
Getting to Island Ciovo by plane
The closest airport is the Split airport in Kastela which is about 6 km from the island. From the Split airport thare following transport options to island Ciovo:
- Pre – booked transfer
- Taxi
- Local bus nr. 37 from the main road in front of airport to Trogir and local bus from Trogir to Ciovo; you can see bus departures from Trogir here (Bus line 42 to Slatine and bus line 44 to Okrug Gornji and Donji)
Alternative airport, well second closest airport, is the one in Zadar.
Getting to Island Ciovo by boat / ferry
There is NO car ferry route to Ciovo.
From Split you can use the Bura Line, a passenger boat sailing on the route Split – Slatine – Trogir and vice versa; you can see the timetable and prices here.
EASY Transport: from the seaside promenade in Trogir there are frequent boat lines (app. every 15 minutes) to Okrug Gornji, a one-way ticket costs about 10 kuna. The boats stop at the Marina in Okrug, which is between the main beach and the center of town. During the main season there are also fairly frequent boats to Slatine from the seaside promenade.

We’ll be staying in Okrug Gornji, and I have a question regarding you mentioned car queues on major shift days. I guess saturday is a major shift day? If so; how long time should we plan on using? We have to be at the airport at 9.00 at the latest, and will use private transfer.

Well i have experienced sitting in a line for more than 1 hour on a rainy day where everybody wanted to get off the island.
I am not sure how long time you should plan in on that specific date, but i think the best is to ask the locals when you are there, they will know.

Perhaps I should send a request to the transfer company as well just to be on the safe side. Could even be that we’ll use the boat to Trogir and grab at taxi there.

We are considering going to Okrug Donji in early august. Our main concern though is how easy it will be to get to Trogir. As far as we can see there goes a busline from Okrug Donji to Trogir, but as we will be living outside of Okrug Donji on the road Ul. Kralja Zvonimira (found through google maps) and don’t walk too well we wanted to know where the autobus goes from in Okrug Donji? It’s line 44.
Any other advice if we chose to travel there? 🙂

Hi Andreas, as far as i can see on the map the Ul. Kralja Zvonimira is the main street, which means the bus will surely drive along that one. if you soom to street view with these coordinates on google maps 43.497126,16.221922 you will see one of the bus stops in Okrug Donji, i think there is a second one a bit further, but not sure.

I am trying to find bus times from Arbanija to trogir – I think it is the number 42 but can’t find any times it stops here. Michele
