  2. hi,

i’m italian and my boyfriend is croatian and we are considering going to new zealand (or australia) to look for a job and stay there for a while. i know that citizens from certain countries (like italy) have the option to go there with a working holiday visa. croatia doesn’t seem to be one of these countries. what should he do in order to get a visa and be able to legally work there? once there, would he be able to change his visa into an other kind (and stay longer) in case he finds a job? i was not able to find any information about croatia-new zealand agreements on the visa regulation online!!

    Please help!!

  3. Hi I am looking for information on visas needed for a group of South Africans going to Croatia for a gymnastics competition. They will go after 31 October because the competition is in November. Some will have Schengen visas. Does the Schengen suffice or so they need separate Craoatian visas? Thanks

  4. Clau,

Your boyfriend should contact the Australian Embassy in Croatia, though working holiday visa is also available for Croatian citizens.

Here is the link for New Zealand visa regulations:
    https://www.immigration.govt.nz/

Despite, New Zealand working/immigrant visa is so easy to get.
Since there is no New Zealand embassy in Croatia you should contact one in Italy.

  5. Gail,

Valid Schengen visas (South African citizens) are valid for Croatia only if entering from a Schengen country on a cruise untill 31 October 2010. Otherwise, Croatian visas are required.
Contact the nearest Croatian embassy for more informations.

Otherwise you REQUIRE a visa, it is not possible for Indian citizens to get a visa on arrival.

  12. I am a citizen from Pakistan and I live in Slovenia for 2 years now on a valid Schengen residence permit. Since government of Croatia has announced this year that it lifted visa requirements for citizens holding Schengen permits from 1st April to 31st October, I supposed I’m allowed to go there. However every time I tried entering into Croatia, the border guards told me that I require visa, and I had to explain them that they should check their information. Most of them don’t speak English and don’t even want to listen. Although in the end I’m able to go because I persist, but this whole thing takes 1 hour sometimes and it is very frustrating.

  13. Hi,

I will be travelling to Croatia for a holiday. I will not need a visa as I’ll only be there a few weeks and am an Austrlian citizen, but need info about passport. Will I need to have 6 months validity left on my passport? It expires in Dec, meaning I will have less than 6 months left on my passport when I am going there and I know many countries require this.
    Any help will be great.
    Cheers.

  14. Syed Hassaan Ahmed,

Until 31 October 2010 you are allowed to enter Croatia holding a valid passport with valid Schengen residence permit. When entering, you should always provide passport opened on the page with Schengen visa.

    Jane,

Your passport must be valid for the period of intended stay.

  15. JackD,

Thats what I did every time for their convenience. Didn’t help much. The point is that most of them were unaware of this law change and I had to explicitly explain and convince them that till 31st of October I’m allowed to travel with a valid passport with valid Schengen residence permit.

  16. Can you give me information on what the rules regarding the visas for cruise ship passengers are?

    Thanks
    Theresa

    • Hi Theresa, please read first part of article

“Please note, special rules apply for guest arriving in Croatia on a cruise ship, if you are passenger on a cruise ship, you cruise company will automatically provide with visa, if necessary.”

  21. Hello,

I am a holder of Indian Passport. I currently live in London(UK) and I have a resident permit for UK which is valid until November 2012. I am planning a trip to Croatia from UK for a few days. Would I be required to obtain a TOURIST visa before I enter Croatia or can I simply obtain a visa on arrival at port of entry into Croatia or am I exempt from any visa ?

  22. IMPORTANT NOTICE:

The Government of the Republic of Croatia, in its session on 5 November 2010, passed the decision to temporarily facilitate the entry of aliens on tourist visits to the Republic of Croatia on the basis of valid Schengen residence permits and visas.

Aliens who are holders of valid Schengen residence permits or valid Schengen visas for short-term stay temporarily do not require a visa for the Republic of Croatia if they are arriving to the Republic of Croatia on cruise ships with the purpose of tourist visit.

The Decision applies from 5 November 2010 until 31 December 2011.

Before arrival check if your country is a part of the Schengen area, not all EU members are part of the Schengen, such as UK, Ireland etc.

  32. Dear Morten

My husband and I are travelling to Croatia in Jun 2011. I have an EEC passport and my husband a South African passport. I have downloaded the visa application form and requirements for my husband seem quite extreme. I would just like to clarify – we have flights booked into Dubrovnik and out of Split. We have an apartment booked in Dubrovnik and Split. I can send copies of all of these bookings. Do you think that will be sufficient? They mention an invitation letter as well as proof of sufficient funds and insurance. The accommodation letter they want to be stamped and signed in Croatia. Please help or do you think I should just phone the Embassy in Pretoria.

    Regards
    Julie

  33. Hello Morten!

I am Lithuanian girl. As I don’t need any visa to enter Croatia, I would like to know, how many times a year am I able to do that? I’m talking about entering Croatia and staying there for 90 days.
Do I need to come back to Lithuania (or any other EU country) after those 90 days are over, and stay there for certain period of time in order to come back to Croatia for another 90 days? Or can there be only few days gap between exiting and reentering Croatia?

Or should I just get Croatian tourist visa for at least 6 months (which I have no idea if it’s possible for Lithuanians)?

Thank you for you help in advance!

    BR,
    Martyna

  38. Hello,

I am an Indian citizen, living in Slovenia on temprory resident student visa.

I read above about Indians not requiring visa from certain date so just cross checking how does it work. I would like to visit Zagreb and further down to the beaches with my Slovenian gf in March. So can I just drive into Crotian territory carrying my passport with me.

Because my gf lives 10 miles from Croatian border so we will probably be goin just for 1-2-3 days and hence neither will my trip fall under organised tour category nor will i have any advance arrangements as we will just move into some youth hostels for accomodations when needed.

So is it possible the way i am perceiving?

Kindly help me getting a cleared picture.

And of course you are welcome for a beer whenever you are in Ljubljana for help 🙂

    Thanks and regards
    Puneet

  39. Puneet,
Aliens who are holders of valid Schengen residence permits or valid Schengen visas for short-term stay temporarily do not require a visa for the Republic of Croatia if they are arriving to the Republic of Croatia on cruise ships with the purpose of tourist visit.

According to the decision by the Government of the Republic of Croatia, facilitated entry of the foreign nationals meeting specified requirements applies from 5 November 2010 until 31 December 2011.

So, unfortunately, you require a visa.
Contact the Croatian embassy in Ljubljana, located at Gruberjevo nabrežje 6 phone 00 386 1 4256 220
It should not be a problem getting your Croatian visa.

  40. My brother was passing through Crovatia on his way to Iraq. He is holding a Schengen visa and thought it would be enough. Now he is held in a police station. What should be done to help his release? Tnanks

  41. Hi Morten,

thanks for a very informative page!

I wonder if you could answer me this –

I am a british passport holder, and my wife is South African. she was initially here on a fiance visa, but since getting married she now has a spouse visa (Biometric Residents Permit). We have booked a trip to Croatia at the end of April, and i was wondering if she would need a visa because she is on a south african passport, or if she is exempt from requiring a visa because she has a Biometric Residents Permit?

Any help would be massively appreciated! I will be calling the embassy in London tomorrow too and hopefully get an answer from them too.

Thanks again for a great page and for your assistance.

    Regards,

    Nic

  42. Kurdo,

He will be returned to country from which he intended to enter Croatia.

    Nic,

Although holding a British residence permit, your wife requires a visa to enter Croatia. The UK is not a part of the Schengen area, thus the UK visas are not Schengen visas.
